We release each state individually to tailor your will to your state’s laws – preventing any legal issues that could occur in the probate process.
Why One Size Fits All Doesn’t Work
We care deeply about the security of your legacy plans and work hard to ensure that your will is customized to your state. The laws regarding the provisions of your will, other estate planning documents, and probate are not handled federally but at the state level. Meaning your state’s government determines the requirements for your estate planning. Therefore a one-size-fits-all will maker is unobtainable and will only do more harm than good in the end.
What are my State’s Requirements?
When you create your will, you’ll receive detailed instructions on what you need to do to ensure that your will is valid in your state. But in general, most states require that your will be notarized and signed by a required number of witnesses.
When will the will-builder become available in my state?
Louisiana will be coming soon! We are proactively updating our online will-maker to include a new state, so please stay tuned!
I’ve secured my will. What should I do next?
Awesome! You’ve completed your will. Your next step is to finalize your will according to the instructions attached with your will. Again, the instructions are custom to your state’s laws. Once you have that completed, you should go ahead and store your will in a safe place while also storing a digital copy in your Postage account for reference.
Then use your legacy planning subscription to plan the rest of your legacy plans. You can use your legacy planner to:
- Store medical records, legal files, vital record
- Protect family photos, videos, and voicemails
- Secure important passwords to devices, online, financial, and other shared accounts
- Leave instructions, notes, and messages for loved ones
